I'm a Scottish Watercolour Artist and retired Architect who enjoys painting landscapes, urban streetscapes, and architectural elements. I draw my inspiration from the coasts and lochs of Scotland, from my native city of Edinburgh, and from my travels. I like to explore variations and contrasts in light and colour to create an atmospheric effect in my paintings. I love the spontaneity and unpredictability of watercolours and the way the colours merge and flow across the paper to create unexpected results. I prefer my paintings to develop in a semi-abstract fluid fashion and I vary the intensity of the watercolour from the faintest of transparent washes to opaque impasto to create richness and drama.
